Who Needs Cake?! ~ Cru Catering Charleston

July 28, 2015

Over the last year or so there has been a big trend among our Cru Catering couples who are leaning away from the tradition of a wedding cake and choosing fun, individual desserts instead.

People are kind of bored with the whole wedding cake idea. The idea is not to have one thing. It’s to have five things or 10 things for people to choose from,” says Seattle caterer Shubert Ho.

While we do agree boredom and the desire for a couple to create a personal, unique wedding experience is a large factor, opting for other dessert choices can actually be more cost effective. Bakeries sometimes charge up to $3 a slice for cutting and serving wedding cake. For a 100 person wedding you can save over $300 by foregoing the cake. Other benefits? More flavors to please all guests, a larger variety of desserts (you can combine donuts, pie, truffles- or whatever your heart desires) and individual desserts can also be used as wedding favors saving you another additional cost.

Ready to trash the Cake concept? Our Pastry Chef, Katelyn Selin, is amazingly talented (if we may so ourselves). Her pastries are as pretty as they are delicious and she loves getting creative with her treats. Whether it’s a flavor you’re craving, a theme or perhaps an ethnic tradition, Katelyn, will WOW your guests and make your vision come to life.
